Thai White Glutinous Rice is a type of rice grown mainly in Southeast and East Asia and the eastern parts of South Asia. Glutinous rice is grown in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh, Northeast India, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines.
The best well-known and best quality variety is called “ Sanpathong Sticky Rice ” which is grown mainly in the northern region of Thailand.
Distinguished by its short, plump grain with milky color.
Also known as Sweet Rice or Sticky Rice.
After cooked by streaming, it has mildly sweet fragrant aroma.
Suitable for Thai dishes, Sweet dishes, other complimentary dishes, as well as brewing industry.
There are numerous cultivars of glutinous rice, which include japonica, indica and tropical japonica strains.
